I lived in 5735 Kentucky Avenue apartment 1, which I subletted from a friend for 3 months. WORST DECISION EVER. This was the dirtiest, most disgusting living condition that I've ever lived in. How, you ask, was the place so disgusting? Let me count the ways... 1. smoke detector inside apartment was not working 2. no smoke detector outside of door into the hallway 3. faulty exhaust fan above stove caused small electrical fire... yes, a FIRE was caused in my apartment where both smoke detectors were not working (safe, huh?) 4. kitchen appliances made circa 1970 5. gaping hole in the kitchen ceiling that has been repaired more than once 6. disgusting carpets, and stained toilet and shower 7. average heat bill during winter months = THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS 8. no lighting outside of back apartment door 9. no peep-hole in doors so you can't see who is there 10. overall, shittiest apartment i've ever seen. and now, they are charging my friend i've subletted from $1300 for shit that we didn't do. they are charging for late rent when we have proof of when the check was written and received. they are charging for us supposedly not returning keys when i personally dropped the keys into their place of employment. they are charging $175 for wallpaper falling off the wall (first of all, it does not cost $175 to glue wallpaper back on, second of all, the wallpaper was like that when i moved in). DO NOT RENT FROM M.J. KELLY REALTY. they will try to scam you and get whatever they can out of you. BE SMART! they are slumlords!

Dear MJ Kelly, The people calling you are your potential tenants. Whatever the case, if you want people to rent your over-priced apartments, at least be courteous on the phone. I mean, this is your first impression here! I already don't want to rent from you now based on the poor phone manners of your staff! I'm not going to break my appointment based on this even though I really really want to. Especially after seeing the reviews on this site. So, I'm going to go look at your apartment. I will also give you the benefit of the doubt- maybe the reviews above somehow don't apply to the place I am going to see! I can only hope that the person showing the place is able to attain some manners before the appointment.
